Series: Ashland holds a 2-0 edge in the all-time series, having claimed a 31-7 victory over Malone at Fawcett Stadium in 2013 and a 27-20 win at Miller Stadium last fall.

Eric Hehman is in his fifth season as the Pioneers' head coach and has tallied a 10-36 record at Malone. Prior to arriving in Canton, Hehman spent the previous five years as the head coach at NCAA Division III Greenville (IL) College where he led the Panthers to a 28-22 record and a berth in the 2009 NCCAA Victory Bowl.

Lee Owens is in his 11th season at Ashland. He has guided the program to a 74-40 mark and three NCAA Div. II playoff appearances (2007, 2008, 2012) since he became the Eagles' head coach in 2004. As a collegiate head coach, Owens has tallied a 114-101 career mark, having spent nine years at the Univ. of Akron prior to becoming the head coach at AU. Owens' resume also includes stints as an assistant at Ohio State Univ. and as the head coach at Massillon Washington H.S.

Malone Notes: The Pioneers suffered a narrow 23-21 defeat at Tiffin University on Saturday…Malone battled back from early deficits of 14-0 and 17-6, pulling ahead 21-17 following a pair of lengthy touchdowns drives at the start of the third quarter...However, the Dragons regained the lead with a pair of field goals and then held on for the victory, intercepting a pass near midfield on Malone's final drive to seal the win… The Pioneers posted a season-high 330 yards of offense during Saturday's contest and scored TD's on all three of their trips into the redzone…Malone currently leads the GLIAC in redzone touchdown percentage, having crossed the goal line seven times in nine attempts (78%).

Ronnie Beers carried the ball 17 times for 116 yards (6.8 average) in Saturday's game, marking the first time this season that a Pioneer eclipsed 100 yards on the ground… Through the Pioneers' first four games, Beers has piled up 192 rushing yards on 30 carries (6.4 average) with one TD…He is also Malone's leading receiver with 11 catches for 136 yards and one score…In just his second collegiate game, QB
Kaleb Scott completed nine of 20 passes for 176 yards and one TD…He also crossed the goal line on a pair of rushing touchdowns…LB
Dan Mower made 10 solo tackles during Saturday's contest and now has 28 total tackles on the season, including 5.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks…DB
Cameron Mammen has registered a team-high 29 tackles this year.
Ashland Notes: The Eagles opened the year with convincing home wins over Lake Erie College and Walsh University before falling on the road to nationally-ranked Ohio Dominican University …Ashland bounced back from the defeat in a big way last week with a convincing 45-23 triumph at the University of Findlay, the squad ranked 25th in the DII National Poll…The Eagles jumped out to a quick 17-0 lead in the contest and then put the game away with a 21-point fourth quarter…Ashland racked up 301 rushing yards against the Oilers and currently ranks third in the GLIAC with an average of 252.5 yards on the ground per game…The Eagles also rank among the conference leaders in points scored (43.0 per game) and total yards (462.8 average).
Ashland players to watch: RB Anthony Taylor has rushed for 422 yards on 75 carries (5.6 average) this season with five rushing touchdowns…His average of 105.5 yards on the ground per game ranks sixth in the GLIAC…Fellow RBs Vance Settlemire and Jordan McCune have also had a huge impact, combining for 518 rushing yards and eight TD's through the first four games….Settlemire helped seal the win over Findlay with fourth-quarter TD runs of 56 and 47 yards… Freshman QB Travis Tarnowski has completed 66 of 108 pass attempts for 829 yards with seven touchdowns and one interception...WR Daniel Piko has been the top target in the passing game with 20 catches for 251 yards and one score…Three of WR Eric Thompkins' eight receptions this year have been for touchdowns…LB Cody Bloom has posted 43 tackles on the season, the second highest total in the GLIAC.
