Series: The Pioneers and Blue Knights, both former members of the Mid-States Football Association, have met a total of 16 times (every year from 1993 through 2008) with Malone holding an 11-5 advantage in the all-time series. The last contest between the two teams occurred at Fawcett Stadium in 2008 – a game that Malone won by a final score of 22-6. The Pioneers are 5-3 all-time in games played at Urbana.
Coaches: Malone –
Eric Hehman is in his fifth season as the Pioneers' head coach and has tallied an 11-39 record at Malone. Prior to arriving in Canton, Hehman spent the previous five years as the head coach at NCAA Division III Greenville (IL) College where he led the Panthers to a 28-22 record and a berth in the 2009 NCCAA Victory Bowl.
Urbana –
David Taynor is in his seventh season at Urbana and has guided the Blue Knights to a 35-39 mark since becoming head coach in 2008. A 1999 Urbana graduate, Taynor previously held assistant coaching positions at Tiffin University, the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and Culver-Stockton (MO) College before taking over as head coach at his alma mater.

Malone Notes: The Pioneers suffered a 55-34 defeat at home to Lake Erie College on Saturday… The Storm used three second-quarter touchdowns to build a 27-7 lead at halftime…Malone cut the deficit to 13 on two separate occasions in the third quarter but was unable to get any closer before LEC put the game out of reach…The Pioneers posted 495 total yards and 25 first downs during Saturday's contest, both of which marked season highs…However, Lake Erie also had a big offensive night, churning out 623 yards and 29 first downs…The Malone defense registered two sacks on Saturday and has now recorded at least one sack in each of its first eight games this year.
Malone players to watch: QB
Brandyn Eckhart completed 10 of 15 passes for a season-high 183 yards and three TDs during Saturday's contest…He also was the Pioneers' leading rusher with 69 yards on 13 attempts…On the season, Eckhart has connected on 58% (39 of 67) of his passes for 577 yards and five scores…RB
Ronnie Beers netted 58 rushing yards on just seven carries against the Storm… On the season, Beers has rushed for a team-high 442 yards on 64 carries (6.9 average) with five TDs…He has also made solid contributions in the passing game with 16 catches for 212 yards and two scores…WR
Jordan Phillips notched six catches for 120 yards and two touchdowns on Saturday.…DB
Demarco Donaldson registered a team-high nine tackles in Saturday's game to move into second place on the Pioneers' all-time tackle list. Donaldson now has 348 career stops (Sean James holds the Malone record with 413 career tackles)…Donaldson is currently ranked among the NCAA Division II leaders this year in both forced fumbles (five) and fumble recoveries (four).
Urbana Notes: The Blue Knights are NCAA Division II members and are in their second year of competition in the Mountain East Conference…After finishing second in the 2013 MEC standings, Urbana opened 2014 with a 24-13 home triumph over the University of Virginia-Wise…However, the Blue Knights have since dropped seven straight, including a 35-31 defeat at Fairmont State (WV) University last Saturday…FSU fell behind 28-7 at halftime but then fought back for the win after out-scoring Urbana 28-3 over the final two quarters… Urbana piled up 338 passing yards during Saturday's game and currently ranks fourth in the 11-team MEC with an average of 281.2 yards through the air per game…The Blue Knights have tallied 21 sacks this season, which is tied for the third-most in their conference.
Urbana players to watch: QB Cale Burdyshaw threw for 338 yards and three touchdowns during Saturday's game at Fairmont State… Burdyshaw has connected on 54% (74 of 137) of his passes so far this year for 901 yards with six TDs and five interceptions…Burdyshaw is also a threat on the ground with 263 rushing yards on 55 attempts…TE La'Velle Spivey and WRs Marc Johnson and Karim Jones Jr. have all surpassed 400 receiving yards this season…Spivey has hauled in a team-high six TD catches while Johnson and Jones have three apiece….Last week against FSU, RB Cedric Presley posted 74 rushing yards and a TD on the ground to go with five catches for 47 yards and a receiving TD…LB D'Gary Wallace paces the squad with 79 total tackles, including 9.5 tackles for loss and two sacks…Wallace has also picked off two passes and forced a fumble…14 of LB Kevin Chapple's 42 total tackles have been made behind the line of scrimmage this year, including 4.5 sacks…Chapple has also forced three fumbles on the season.
