Malone University student-athletes were well represented when the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference recently announced its 2013 Fall Academic Teams. To earn the distinction, student-athletes must participate in a fall sport, possess at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA), be an active member on the roster at the end of the season and have completed at least one year at their institution (cannot be a freshman or first-year transfer student) . Student-athletes with a cumulative GPA of 3.0-3.49 were placed on the All-Academic Team while student-athletes with a GPA of 3.50-4.0 were named to the All-Academic Excellence Team.
In total, the Pioneers placed 32 student-athletes on the All-Academic Team and 20 on the All-Academic Excellence Team. Men's cross country was the most-represented Pioneer team with a total of 11 athletes receiving the distinction. Football followed closely, with ten student-athletes earning GLIAC academic honors. Women's cross country tied the men's cross-country team as the most- represented on the All-Academic Excellence Team with a total of four athletes from each team achieving a 3.5 grade point average or higher.
The GLIAC will announce additional academic awards following the completion of the winter and spring seasons.
