Men's Tennis Loses Home Match To GLIAC Power Ferris State 9-0

Freshman Youssef ElSonbaty played a hard-fought match against Ferris State's #1 singles player, Laurent Galarneau, who is ranked #6 in the ITA's regional rankings, but came up short in a 6-3, 7-6 loss.

The Malone University men's tennis team squared off against #2 Midwest Region ranked and #34 ITA nationally-ranked Ferris State University (MI) in a home match on Friday and dropped a 9-0 decision to the Bulldogs.  With the loss, Malone fell to 8-11 overall and to 1-4 in the GLIAC.  Ferris State improved to 11-2 overall and kept its GLIAC record perfect at 8-0.

With three FSU players ranked in the top 15 of the regional rankings and its top doubles team ranked #3 in the region, Malone had an uphill battle on the day.

Youssef ElSonbaty, playing at #1 singles, gave a valiant effort in his loss against FSU's Laurent Galarneau, who is ranked #6 in the regional rankings, but came up on the short end of a 6-3, 7-6 contest.

Nate Davis, at #2 singles, competing against the #9 ranked player in the region, lost by a 6-3, 6-1 margin.

Malone will next compete against GLIAC opponent Ohio Dominican University next Friday (April 5th) at 2:00 p.m.
