While most assuredly enjoying its time in the tropics of Hawaii this week, the Malone University women's basketball team was all business in the first of its two contests on the island of Oahu as the Pioneers soundly defeated Chaminade University 92-58 late Thursday evening.
Other than a brief tie at 2-2, Malone led the entire contest in a game that saw the Pioneers pour in a season-high 13 three-point baskets and dominate the rebounding battle by a 53-30 margin.
With the win, Malone improved to 6-3 overall, remaining at 1-3 in GLIAC play, while the Swords dropped to 1-7 overall.
After opening up its largest lead of the first half, at 24 points with 1:13 left in the period, the Pioneers held a 52-31 advantage at the intermission. In the final stanza, Malone extended its lead throughout the 20 minutes, capping the game off with the largest lead of the contest as guard
Sydnee Penn closed out the scoring with 36 seconds left as she netted a pair of free throws to set the final score at 92-58.

Deborah Simmers led four Pioneers in double-digit scoring as she tossed in 20 points while guard
Lauren Myers was close behind with 14 points (5-8 FG, 3-5 3FG, 1-1 FT) while also tallying four rebounds. Penn scored 13 points and also posted eight rebounds, a game-high seven assists and two steals. Guard
Selana Reale also hit twin figures with 11 points, including three treys, while also pocketing six rebounds, three assists and two steals. Forward
Alyssa Brandon chipped in with eight points, hitting three of six shots (including two of five from long range). In addition, forward
Sarah Bardall led Malone in rebounds with 10.
Kennedi Akana paced the Swords with 13 points followed closely by Hanna Curtius with 12 points. Lilia Maio led the squad in rebounds with seven.
Malone connected on 45.3% (34-75) of its field goal attempts while Chaminade sank 35.1% (20-57) of its tries. From beyond the three-point arc, the Pioneers drilled 13 of 32 attempts for 40.6% while the Swords hit seven of 18. In addition, an identical 11 of 19 (57.9%) mark at the free throw line was posted by each team.
