Saturday's game will mark the first-ever meeting between the two teams as Alderson Broaddus is in its first season of varsity football.

Coaches:   
MaloneEric Hehman is in his fourth season as the Pioneers' head coach and has tallied a 9-30 record at Malone.  Prior to arriving in Canton, Hehman spent the previous five years as the head coach at NCAA Division III Greenville (IL) College where he led the Panthers to a 28-22 record and a berth in the 2009 NCCAA Victory Bowl.
Alderson BroaddusDennis Creehan is in his third year at Alderson Broaddus, having launched the football program while also serving as the Battlers' athletic director.  Creehan has 42 years of football coaching experience to his credit, most recently leading West Virginia Wesleyan College to a 9-2 record in 2010 before moving on to ABU.  Prior to WVWC, Creehan spent five years coaching in the Canadian Football League (CFL).  His extensive coaching resume also includes positions at the Univ. of Pittsburgh, the Univ. of California, and Rutgers University.

Malone Notes: The Pioneers fell on the road to Ashland University this past Saturday by a final score of 27-20…After Malone jumped out to a 14-7 first-quarter lead, the Eagles took control, forcing four Pioneer turnovers and rattling off 20 straight points to pull ahead 27-14…Malone would engineer a late 90-yard TD drive, scoring on the last play of regulation to account for the final score of 27-20…Malone scored touchdowns on three of its four trips inside the red zone on Saturday and currently ranks first among the GLIAC's 15 schools with a red zone touchdown percentage of 79%...Overall, the Pioneers have posted 23 TDs and two field goals on 29 trips inside their opponents' 20-yard line this year…Although held to 80 yards on the ground last week against a strong Ashland defense, Malone still ranks seventh in the conference in rushing with an average of 209.8 yards per game…The Pioneers are eighth in the GLIAC in total offense at 392.9 yards per contest…However, Malone has struggled to take care of the football at times this season, now at -8 in turnover margin.

Malone players to watch:  QB Brandyn Eckhart completed 15 of 26 passes for 242 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions during Saturday's game while also crossing the goal line with a three-yard rushing TD…On the season, Eckhart has completed 36 of his 68 passes for 655 yards with six touchdowns and three interceptions…the junior has also picked up 190 yards on the ground with four rushing TDs…Although he missed Saturday's game due to injury, QB Will Szpor has also seen plenty of time under center this season, having completed over 60% of his passes for 781 yards with six touchdowns and four INTs…With starting RBs Bryce Pratt and Justin Davis out due to injury, RBs Reggie Terrell and Steven Niewiedzial stepped in Saturday, combining for 81 rushing yards and one score…WR Josh McLaughlin posted a career-high 89 receiving yards vs. Ashland…McLaughlin has now registered 19 catches on the season for 254 yards…WR Jordan Phillips leads the Pioneer receiving corps with 25 catches for 380 yards and three TDs…DB Demarco Donaldson continues to lead all of NCAA Division II with five forced fumbles…Donaldson has posted double-digit tackles in seven of eight games so far this season and his average of 12.1 tackles per game is tied for first in the conference.

Alderson Broaddus: Competing as an NCAA Division II Independent in their first season of varsity football, the Battlers have tallied a 4-3 record against a variety of opponents from the Division II, NAIA & USCAA ranks…ABU has averaged over 36 points per game in its four victories, but the squad has also given up 51.3 points per game in its three losses with an average margin of defeat of 26 points…The Battlers enter Saturday's contest on a two-game winning streak…ABU had a bye this past Saturday and most recently rolled to a 51-14 victory at Warner (FL) University on Oct. 19….The Battlers racked up 45 first-half points in the blowout win, returning a blocked punt for a TD and forcing three other turnovers during the first two quarters…Alderson Broaddus is averaging nearly 350 yards of offense per contest...The Battler defense is giving up  407 yards per game, including an average of 247.7 rushing yards per outing…ABU has forced a total of 17 turnovers this year (11 fumble recoveries, 6 interceptions).

Alderson Broaddus: RB Brandon Jones has averaged over 150 all-purpose yards through the Battlers first seven games…The redshirt freshman has picked up 718 rushing yards on 157 carries (4.6 average) with seven TDs while also grabbing 20 receptions for 127 yards and a score and averaging 24.7 yards on nine kickoff returns…ABU has utilized three QBs this season…Wilson Vaughn has seen the most snaps and is listed atop the depth chart this week…In six games played, the redshirt freshman has completed 80 of his 130 passes for 926 yards with eight TDs and seven interceptions…Dakota Bruggeman and Weslley Nesmith have also seen plenty of playing time…Bruggeman has thrown for 221 yards and three scores while Nesmith has passed for 519 yards and four TDs…WR Isaac Silafau has registered 32 catches for 268 yards and one TD…Silafau has also been a weapon on special teams with 18 kickoff returns for 387 yards, including a 90-yard run back for a TD against Chowan (NC) University…Kickers Jordan Butler and Phillip Warner have combined to make 11 of 12 field goals…LB Robby Hogue has made a team-high 61 tackles on the season…DL Jeff Stephens has piled up 54 tackles, including 11.5 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks.
