The Malone University women's basketball team suffered a 55-45 home loss to Notre Dame College Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Pioneers dropped to 11-13 on the season while the Falcons improved to 12-11.
Although Malone grabbed an early 4-0 lead, the visitors stormed back by going on a 20-6 run to take a 20-10 advantage with 5:15 left in the first half. The Pioneers regrouped, though, and went on a surge of their own by scoring nine straight points just before Notre Dame hit a three-point basket late in the half to secure a 22-19 Falcon halftime advantage.
Notre Dame opened the second frame by scoring eight straight points to take a 30-19 lead. From that point, Malone did cut its deficit to eight points, at 40-32 with 9:17 left, but could get no closer as the visitors kept their advantage and pocketed the 10-point 55-45 win over the Pioneers.
The overall shooting percentage was nearly dead-even with Malone at 34.6% (18-52) and Notre Dame at 34.4% (21-61). The visitors held the advantage from three-point range, sinking seven of 22 attempts for 31.8%, as the hosts connected on three of 16 for 18.8%. At the free throw line, both teams netted six baskets although Malone had the better percentage, at 85.7% (6-7), to Notre Dame's 42.9% (6-14). In addition, the Pioneers held a decisive advantage in rebounds 44-34.

Sydnee Penn posted a double-double with team highs in both points, with 13, and rebounds, with 12. Penn also dished out three assists in the contest. Guard
Caitlin Sharp followed with 12 points, including a pair of three-point baskets. Guard
Selana Reale chipped in with nine points and six rebounds while forward
Lindsy Snyder added seven points and five boards. In addition, forward
Sarah Bardall posted four points and five rebounds.
Danielle Ledrich paced Notre Dame with 13 points while Alex Dackin followed with 12 points. Martha Nagbe led the Falcons in rebounds with eight.
Malone will next compete on Thursday, February 23rd in a 5:30 p.m. home contest against Salem International (WV) University.
