The Malone University men's tennis team, competing in its first “spring” match of the season, lost to Wayne State University (MI) by a score of 9-0 in a home match at the Hall of Fame Fitness Center in Canton Friday afternoon. Including its 0-3 record from the fall, Malone now stands at 0-4 for the 2011-12 academic year. Wayne State, an NCAA Division II Regional Tournament qualifier last season, improved to 2-1 on the season.
While the Pioneers did not win a set against the Warriors,
Michael Berry and
Andrew Rearick, playing at #3 doubles, did muster four individual game wins in an 8-4 setback. In addition,
Nate Davis, at #1 singles, and
Alex Steinmetz, at #2 singles, each nearly pulled off a victory in one of the two sets, losing 6-4 in their first and second sets, respectively.
