The Malone University football team suffered a tough 56-7 loss in its season finale at Ohio Dominican University on Saturday. The Panthers took control of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest early on, scoring touchdowns on their first six offensive possessions to take a 42-0 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The Panthers (8-3 overall, 7-3 GLIAC) tacked on an 18-yard touchdown pass midway through the third quarter before Malone (1-9 overall, 1-9 GLIAC) got on the scoreboard at the 9:41 mark of the fourth stanza with a two-yard rushing touchdown by running back
Reggie Terrell. ODU running back Ronnel Spates then capped the day's scoring moments later with a six-yard TD scamper.
Ohio Dominican, which entered Saturday's contest with the second-ranked rushing attack among the GLIAC's 16 teams, did most of its damage on the ground, piling up 321 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns. Running back Mark Nichols led the way with 174 yards and three TDs on 17 carries. Running back Brandon Schoen added 65 yards and two scores on 11 attempts while Spates posted 43 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries.
Malone, meanwhile, struggled to get its offense on track for much of the afternoon. The Pioneers committed four turnovers while being held to 13 first downs and 182 total yards - 126 rushing and 56 passing.
The Pioneers opened the contest by successfully converting on an on-side kick attempt. However, ODU forced a three-and-out and then put together a five-play, 56-yard drive that concluded with Nichols' first TD run of the afternoon.
The Panthers would go on to score touchdowns on their next six drives to put the game out of reach.
Terrell ended the day with 62 rushing yards and a touchdown on 21 attempts. Fellow running back
Emil Chambliss added 56 rushing yards on eight carries. Pioneer quarterback
Will Szpor completed five of 14 pass attempts on the afternoon for 47 yards.

Logan Francis paced the Malone defense with 10 tackles and a fumble recovery. Defensive back
Demarco Donaldson added nine tackles while defensive lineman

Antonio Scassa each registered six tackles apiece.
For ODU, quarterback Mark Miller completed six of 10 pass attempts for 78 yards with two touchdowns. Wide receiver Abe Johnson caught both of Miller's' TD tosses and ended the day with five catches, totaling 51 yards. Defensive back Justin Bell posted nine tackles to lead the way for the Panther defense. He also intercepted a pass and returned it 49 yards to set up an ODU touchdown.
