The Malone University women's basketball team lost to visiting Cedarville University 58-49 in Malone's Osborne Hall Saturday afternoon in a contest that saw the hosts take a commanding early lead but with the visitors rallying to take the victory. With the loss, Malone dropped to 7-9 on the season while Cedarville improved to 8-5 overall.
After a seesaw battle for the first 10 minutes of the contest in which Malone held a slim 14-13 lead, the Pioneers ignited their offensive output while clamping down on defense and pulled away for a commanding 16-point 35-19 halftime advantage.
But the Yellow Jackets went on a run of their own, and a rather lengthy one, to open the second half by outscoring the hosts by a margin of 29-3 to grab a 10-point lead of their own at 48-38 with 7:54 remaining in the game. Down the stretch, Malone was able to trim the Cedarville lead to just five points on two separate occasions (with just over two minutes and one minute left) but could get no closer as the Yellow Jackets held off the potential Malone rally to post the 58-49 win.
The shooting percentages from the floor, including three-point range, were fairly even with Malone holding a slight 39.6% (19-48) to 36.4% edge from the field overall and Cedarville taking a 26.3% (5-19) to 21.4% (3-14) advantage from beyond the three-point arc. The Yellow Jackets held a decisive advantage from the foul line at 72.2% (13-18) to 57.1% (8-14). In addition, Malone held a slim 37-35 edge in rebounds.

Lindsy Snyder paced the Pioneer offense with 14 points and also grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds to record yet another double-double on the season. Guard
Sydnee Penn also hit twin figures with 11 points while also yanking down four rebounds. Forward
Sarah Bardall chipped in with nine points, six rebounds and three assists while guard
Selana Reale added seven points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Deborah Gordon led Cedarville with 15 points while Becky Orchard followed with 12 points. Gordon also paced the Yellow Jackets in rebounds with seven.
