The Malone University women's basketball team posted a solid 63-51 win at Salem International (WV) University Thursday night to bounce back from a pair of losses last Thursday and Saturday. With the victory, the Pioneers improved to 10-11 on the season while the Lady Tigers dropped to 2-18 overall.
Early on in the contest, Salem held a 12-4 advantage, its largest lead of the game, before Malone stormed back to lead by as many as seven points late in the first frame, eventually settling in for a six-point 30-24 halftime edge.
In the final 20 minutes of action, the Lady Tigers stayed within that six-point deficit for the first eight minutes, at 36-30 with 12:08 left, before Malone went on a 17-5 run to stretch its lead to 53-35 with just over four minutes remaining in the game. The Pioneers grabbed their largest lead of the contest, at 19 points, with three minutes left before Salem International pulled back to within 12 points by the game's end in the 63-51 Malone win.
Although the Pioneers took far fewer shots from the floor in the contest, they made their attempts count as they connected on 52.5% (21-40) while the Lady Tigers made just 36.4% (20-55). Malone also fared well from three-point range, hitting five of 10 for 50.0% while Salem International sank one more (6), but on 20 attempts, for 30.0%. At the free throw line, Malone was outstanding as they converted 16 of 17 tries for 94.1% while the hosts converted five of six for 83.3%. In addition, the Pioneers held the advantage in rebounding at 27-18.

Lindsy Snyder tossed in a game-high 16 points while also grabbing a team-best six rebounds. Guard
Sydnee Penn was right behind, though, with 15 points and four rebounds. Penn also dished out three assists and pocketed two steals. Guard
Caitlin Sharp tallied eight points, including a pair of three-point baskets, and contributed two rebounds, three assists and two steals as well. Guard
Cindy Netti came off the bench to notch seven points and five rebounds. Forward
Sarah Bardall posted six points while forward
Alyssa Brandon had five points.
Whitney McCargo paced Salem International's scoring with 15 points followed by Inkera Patterson with 11 points. McCargo also led the team in rebounds with six.
Malone will be back in action a week from Saturday (Feb. 4th) when the team hosts Ursuline College (6-11) in a 2:00 p.m. contest.
