The Malone University women's golf team, competing in its second event of the 2011 fall campaign, captured the University of Northwestern Ohio Invitational at the Hawthorne Hills Golf Club in Lima, Ohio on Friday. In addition, Malone's
Maggie Reiman earned medalist honors at the event with a first-place round of 82 (+10), which was three strokes ahead of the runner-up from UNOH.
Among a five-team field at the par-72, 5877 yard course, the Pioneers posted a score of 352 (+64) to defeat runner-up and host Northwestern Ohio, which tallied a 363, by 11 strokes. Point Park University posted a third-place score of 382, Ursuline College came in fourth at 398 and Indiana University-East finished fifth at 432.
Natalie Reddaway posted the next best score for Malone, behind Reiman's winning round, with an 86, which was good enough for third place among 25 golfers competing. Also scoring for the Pioneers were
Abby Froman, who finished in a tie for seventh at 90, and
Heather Evanich in 11th at 94.
Also competing for Malone were
Alicia Kindig, who carded a 106,
Katlynn Stoll, who posted a 129, and
Kelsey Becker, who tallied a 143.
Malone will next compete at the Cleveland State University Invitational on Monday and Tuesday at the Pine HIlls Golf Course in Hinckley, Ohio.
