Box Score

The Malone University baseball team suffered a 4-3 loss to Oklahoma Wesleyan University on Friday afternoon in its fourth and final pool-play contest at the NCCAA World Series in Mason, Ohio. The Eagles, seeded ninth among the event's ten-team field, recorded the victory in walk-off fashion in the bottom of the seventh on a one-out , bases-loaded single.

With the thrilling win, OWU improved its record to 37-27, completing an undefeated, 4-0 run through the pool-play round. As the Pool A winner, Oklahoma Wesleyan will now move on to face the Pool B winner, sixth-seeded North Greenville (SC) University, in a best-of-three weekend series to decide the NCCAA National Champion. Fifth-seeded Malone wrapped up pool play with a 1-2-1 record, ending its 2011 campaign with a final mark of 36-24-1.

The Eagles scored solo runs in the bottom of the first, second and fifth innings to take a 3-0 advantage in the contest. The Pioneers rallied to tie the game with three scores in the top of the sixth before OWU won it with the walk-off hit in the bottom of the seventh.

Five different Malone batters tallied singles in the game to account for the squad's five base hits. Third baseman Bob Suitca registered one of those singles to go with a sacrifice fly. Senior right-hander Camden Carter started on the mound and earned a no decision after working the first five innings.
