The Malone University baseball team has been designated as the No. 5 seed for this week's NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association) World Series that is set to be held May 18-21 at Prasco Park and Legacy Field in Mason, Ohio. The Pioneers enter the ten-team tournament with a 35-22 overall record, having qualified for the event by winning the NCCAA East Region Title.
This year, the tournament features a pool-play format with two pools consisting of five teams apiece. The winners of each pool then face off in a best 2-out-of-3 series on Friday and Saturday to decide the NCCAA National Champion.
The Pioneers will take on No. 4 seed Cedarville University (33-16) on Wednesday evening at 8:15 p.m. in the first of their four pool-play contests. Malone is scheduled to face eighth-seeded Olivet Nazarene (IL) University (32-22) on Thursday at 11:45 a.m. before taking on No. 1 seed Southeastern (FL) University (41-19) at 5:15 p.m. The Pioneers then wrap up pool play on Friday with a 1:00 p.m. match-up against ninth-seeded Oklahoma Wesleyan University (33-27).
The other pool features No. 2 Judson (IL) University (42-17), No. 3 Mount Vernon Nazarene University (30-19), No. 6 North Greenville (SC) University (33-15), No. 7 The Master's (CA) College (25-25), and No. 10 King (TN) College (19-22).
Malone will be making its fifth trip to the NCCAA World Series in the last six years and eighth appearance overall. The Pioneers captured the NCCAA National Title in 2006.
