The Malone University women's basketball team lost an American Mideast Conference contest at Ursuline College on Saturday by the score of 93-76. Despite four players scoring in double figures, the Pioneers lost the 17-point decision to the Arrows who had six players of their own hit twin figures. With the loss, Malone dropped to 8-19 overall and to 4-10 in the AMC while Ursuline improved to 7-21 overall and to 4-10 in conference play.
Malone trailed 43-33 at halftime and, despite trailing by as many as 13 points early in the second half, was able to trim the lead to just six points with 8:22 left with the score standing at 67-61. The Pioneers could get no closer, though, as Ursuline pulled away down the stretch to post the 93-76 victory.
Senior guard
Amy Kittle paced Malone with 22 points on the day and surpassed the career 1,000-point mark in the process. She now stands at 1,019 points and currently ranks 20
th (tied) on Malone's all-time scoring list. Kittle drilled three three-pointers and also contributed three assists and three rebounds in the contest.
Guard
Trisha Seilhamer tossed in 14 points while also pulling down four rebounds. She also dished out four assists and pocketed three steals. Forward
Sarah VanVoorhis had 13 points and five rebounds while
Ashley Speicher also hit twin figures with 11 points, including three baskets from beyond the three-point arc. Guard
Caitlin Sharp contributed eight points (including two three-pointers) and four assists. In addition, guard
Tyler Darland had five rebounds and three assists.
Ursuline was led by Michele Hare who tossed in 22 points followed by Katie Capello with 16 points. Josie Smith paced the Arrows in rebounds with 10.
Malone connected on 38.5% of its shots (25 of 65) from the field while Ursuline sank 55.4% of its attempts (36 of 65). The Pioneers fared much better from three-point land as the team drilled 11 shots on 30 attempts (36.7%) while the Arrows made only five of 13 attempts (38.5%). At the line, Malone was 15 of 19 for 78.9% while Ursuline converted 16 of 23 for 69.6%. The Arrows held a commanding 45-30 advantage in rebounds on the day.
Malone will next compete in an AMC home contest against Notre Dame (OH) College (20-8, 10-4 AMC) on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. A
