Box Score

The Malone University women's basketball team suffered a 74-49 defeat to the University of Findlay on Friday, the second and final day of the Oilers' Holiday Tournament.  After registering a 76-65 triumph over Northwood (MI) University in the opening game of the event on Thursday, Malone was plagued by a season-high 27 turnovers in Friday's setback to Findlay.   The Oilers, members of NCAA Division II and the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC), improved to 9-3 with the victory while the Pioneers slipped to 6-8.

Against Findlay's tough full-court press, Malone committed 16 first-half turnovers.  The Pioneers were also limited to just 14 field-goal attempts through the first 20 minutes, making six (42.9%).  The Oilers countered by sinking 16 of 32 (50%) shot attempts during the opening stanza to take a 39-23 advantage into the locker room at intermission.

The Pioneers trimmed Findlay's lead to single digits on three separate occasions in the final stanza, the final time coming midway through the period as a three-pointer by Malone guard Trisha Seilhamer made the score 51-44.  However, this was as close as the Pioneers would get the rest of the way as the Oilers put the game out of reach by outscoring Malone 23-5 over the final nine minutes.

Findlay registered 16 steals over the course of the afternoon, netting a total of 32 points off Pioneer turnovers.  The Oilers also held a 37-30 edge on the boards and made 26 of 61 (42.6%) shots from the field, nine of 25 (36.0%) three-pointers and 13 of 20 (65.0%) free throws.  Malone ended the day having connected on 16 of 43 (37.2%) field-goal attempts, six of 17 (35.3%) treys and 11 of 12 (91.7%) foul shots.

Guard Lauren Myers led the way for the Pioneers with 13 points.  Guard Sydnee Penn followed closely with 11 points, six rebounds, four assists and three blocks.  Forward Lindsy Snyder added eight points and a team-high seven boards while guard Caitlin Sharp came off the bench to contribute five points.

Forward Kayla Brown paced Findlay with 17 points, nine rebounds and four assists.  Guard Clare Aubry also reached double figures with 14 points.

After its 1-1 performance at the Findlay Holiday Tournament, Malone will be back in action on Monday with a 7:30 p.m. home contest against NCAA Division III Geneva (PA) College (1-9 overall).  Live streaming video and statistics will be available free of charge for those fans who cannot be in attendance.  Click here for links to each.
