The Cavaliers hold a 10-6 advantage in the annual battle for the John Bankert-Dick Gallagher Memorial Trophy.  Although the Pioneers had won three straight meetings from 2006-2008, Walsh has posted victories each of the last two years, registering a 31-14 triumph in 2009 and a narrow 24-21 win last season.

Coaches:
Malone – Eric Hehman is in his second season as the Pioneers' head coach, having led Malone to a 6-10 overall mark since taking over the reins of the program in 2010.  Prior to arriving at Malone, Hehman had spent the previous five years as the head coach at NCAA Division III Greenville (IL) College where he led the Panthers to a 28-22 record and a berth in the 2009 NCCAA Victory Bowl.
Walsh – Jim Dennison is in his 17th season at Walsh and has guided the Cavaliers to a 112-68 mark since the program began play in 1995.  Overall, Dennison has compiled a 192-130-2 record in 30 seasons of coaching college football.

Last Season's Records: Malone 3-7 (2-5 MSFA Mideast), Walsh 7-4 (3-4 MSFA Mideast)

Malone Notes – The Pioneers will be looking to bounce back from last week's tough 52-10 home loss to NAIA #1 Saint Xavier (IL) University…Malone fell behind 45-0 at halftime after committing four first-half turnovers…The Pioneers rank 10th out of the MSFA's 19 teams in total offense with an average of 284.5 yards per game….Malone also ranks fourth in the MSFA in kick-off returns, having tallied an average of 21.9 yards on 33 attempts.

Walsh Notes – The Cavaliers suffered a tough 42-41 loss in double overtime last week at Fawcett Stadium to the University of Saint Francis (IN), the No. 6 ranked team in this week's NAIA National Poll…Walsh rallied to tie the game with a pair of fourth-quarter TD drives…However, after both teams scored touchdowns in the first extra frame, a missed PAT proved to be the difference in the second overtime period…The Cavaliers currently rank seventh in the MSFA in rushing offense with an average of 155.7 yards on the ground per game…Walsh is also +4 in turnover margin which ranks fifth in the MSFA.

Walsh players to watch: RB Steve Smith rushed for 164 yards and a school record six touchdowns in last week's narrow loss to USF…Smith, who was seeing increased playing time due to injuries to tailbacks Toba Olarewaju and Dominic Williams, has now rushed for 192 yards on 51 carries this season…Despite missing the game against Saint Francis with an ankle injury, Olarewaju still leads the MSFA with an average of 104.6 rushing yards per game (he posted 523 rushing yards through Walsh's first five contests)…QB Jim Shplett has completed 46 of his 124 pass attempts so far this year for 642 yards with two touchdowns and five interceptions…WR Darryl Gary has notched a team-high 18 catches on the year for 213 yards and a score…WR Anthony Schrock returned from injury last week to post five catches for 102 yards against the Cougars…LB Nathan Filut has posted 37 tackles on the season with one tackle for loss and one pass break-up…LB Cory Farcas has made 33 stops with 6.5 tackles for loss, two sacks and a fumble recovery…DB Brandon Mingo has registered 29 tackles with three tackles for loss…Mingo has also intercepted a pass and registered the game-winning points in Walsh's 22-20 victory at Urbana after he posted a sack in the endzone for a safety midway through the fourth quarter…DB Tony Stover has posted 24 total tackles and leads the squad with two interceptions…Stover has also been a force on special teams as he has returned 13 kickoffs for 318 yards (24.5 average) and eight punts for 113 yards (14.1 average), including a 75-yard punt return for a touchdown in the Cavaliers' win over Urbana.
