Series:
The Knights, now in their fourth season of intercollegiate football, trail 2-1 in the all-time series with the Pioneers. However, Marian won the most recent matchup between the teams (last season at Marian) by a final score of 28-24.

Coaches:
Malone – Eric Hehman is in his first season as the Pioneers' head coach after spending the last five years as the head coach at NCAA Division III Greenville (IL) College. Overall, Hehman tallied a 28-22 record at Greenville, leading the Panthers to a 7-3 record in 2009 and a berth in the NCCAA Victory Bowl.

Marian – Ted Karras Jr. is in his fourth season at Marian and has directed the Knights to a 21-20 record, including a 7-2 mark this season. Now in his tenth season as a collegiate head coach, Karras has compiled a 65-46 career record.

Malone Notes:
The Pioneers rolled to a 34-0 victory at Trinity International (IL) University on Saturday as the squad outgained the Trojans by a 411-120 margin in total yards while limiting TIU to six first downs…The shutout was Malone's second of the year, marking the first time since 1999 and only the second time in program history that the Pioneers have shutout two opponents in the same year…Malone currently ranks fourth in the 16-team MSFA (eighth overall in the NAIA) in rushing offense with an average of 240.5 yards on the ground per game.

Malone players to watch:
RB Markus McFolling posted 163 rushing yards and three TD's in last week's win at Trinity…Through the Pioneers' first eight games, the senior has piled up 788 rushing yards on 145 attempts (5.4 average) with seven touchdowns…McFolling's average of 98.5 yards per game ranks third in the MSFA and 18th overall in the NAIA… QB Mike Karls has completed 32 of 75 pass attempts on the year for 536 yards with three touchdowns and four interceptions…Karls is also the second-leading rusher on the team with 280 yards on 80 attempts (3.5 average), including a long run of 45 yards and one rushing TD…WR Matt Kiel has pulled in 14 catches for 233 yards and two scores…TE Tom Ferron has also contributed to the passing game with 11 catches for 184 yards and one score…Slot Back Justin McLean is currently averaging 7.1 yards per carry on 27 rushing attempts with two touchdowns…On the defensive side of the ball, LB Antonio Scassa leads the squad with 55 total tackles, including 2.5 tackles for loss and a sack…Scassa has also forced a fumble and intercepted a pass…DB Isaiah Wyatt follows with 46 tackles and six pass break-ups…DL Cody Carroll has registered 43 total tackles with 10.5 tackles for loss and a forced fumble…Carroll currently ranks sixth in the NAIA with 6.5 total sacks…DB Lepear Smith has posted 21 tackles, forced two fumbles and scored three special teams touchdowns this season…Smith collected MSFA Mideast Special Teams Player of the Week honors for the third time this year after returning a blocked punt for a TD in last week's victory at TIU.

Marian Notes:
The Knights picked up a 20-6 victory at Taylor (IN) University on Saturday…Marian's pass defense came up big in the contest, breaking up 11 Trojan passes and recording four interceptions, one of which was returned 45 yards for a touchdown… The Knights have now forced 25 turnovers on the year with 20 interceptions and five fumble recoveries through their first nine games…Marian leads the MSFA in rushing defense (ranks 12th in the NAIA), surrendering an average of just 101.2 yards per contest… The Knights also rank second in the conference (15th in the NAIA) in pass offense with an average of 255 yards per outing.

Marian players to watch:
QB Clay Coomer has completed 158 of 275 pass attempts this season (57.5%) for 2144 yards with 20 touchdowns and 12 interceptions…Coomer currently ranks second in the MSFA (15th in the NAIA) in passing with 238.2 yards per game while his average of 254.8 yards of total offense per outing ranks third in the conference and 19th overall in the NAIA…WR Chris Rutherford has snagged 42 pass receptions for 686 yards with eight touchdowns…Rutherford is also a threat as a returner as he is averaging 26.2 yards on 12 kickoff returns including a 90-yard run back for a touchdown in the Knights' victory over Olivet Nazarene (IL) University on Oct. 16…WR JaQuan Patilla is also a big contributor in the passing game having pulled in 35 catches for 545 yards and six scores…FB Nick Bradford paces the team in rushing with 271 yards and three touchdowns on 64 carries (4.2 average)…LB Brock Caraboa has registered 84 total tackles this season with two tackles for loss, an interception and two forced fumbles… LB Reece Green has registered 57 total tackles on the year with two tackles for loss, one sack, two interceptions, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery…DB Dustin Craig follows with 55 total tackles and a team-high five interceptions…DB Eric Sheppard was named the NAIA's National Defensive Player of the Week after intercepting two passes in the red zone in last week's win at Taylor…On the year, Sheppard has totaled 43 tackles with three interceptions and a team-high 11 pass break-ups.
