The Malone University women's basketball team fell on the road Friday evening in a non-conference game at Houghton (NY) College as the Highlanders shot nearly 65% from the field in the second half to pull away for a 91-62 victory. The Pioneers were outscored 23-2 over the first eight minutes of the game but then fought back into the contest with a 16-2 scoring run that trimmed the Houghton advantage to 31-24 with less than two minutes to play in the opening stanza. The Highlanders scorched the nets over the final 20 minutes, though, as the hosts put the contest away by draining 20 of 31 (64.5%) field goals, five of seven (71.4%) three-pointers and nine of 14 (64.3%) foul shots in the second half. The loss dropped Malone's record dropped to 1-2 on the year while Houghton improved to 1-0 with its season-opening victory .
The Pioneers hit 18 of 23 (78.3%) free throws over the course of the evening and were a perfect six-for-six from beyond the three-point arc. However, Malone struggled closer to the basket, converting on just 19 of its 59 (32.2%) total field goals. Houghton held a commanding 45-32 advantage on the boards while knocking down 53% (35 of 66) of its shots from the field, an incredible 83.3% (10 of 12) of its treys and 68.8% (11 of 16) of its foul shots.

Ashley Speicher came off the bench to pace the Pioneers with 13 points. Forward
Alison Schloz followed with 12 points and eight rebounds. Guard
Amy Kittle contributed 11 points and two assists while forward
Sarah VanVoorhis tossed in eight points.
Center Ashley Dupler notched 18 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks to lead the way for the Highlanders.
Malone will continue its road trip in the state of New York on Saturday with a 2:00 p.m. contest against Roberts Wesleyan College.
