Gruen, a freshman from Grove City, Ohio (Central Crossing H.S.), made substantial contributions for the Pioneers last week, both in the circle and at the plate.

As a pitcher, Gruen notched a 2-1 record with a 3.06 earned run average. She struck out seven batters on the week and led the Pioneers to a 3-0 triumph in game two of Wednesday's doubleheader with Ursuline after tossing a complete-game shutout.

Gruen also did plenty of offensive damage as she batted .545 (6-for-11) with a pair of doubles and five runs batted in.
