Aquino pocketed the game-tying goal last Monday in the Pioneers' 3-2 come-from-behind, overtime win at Urbana University. With less than six minutes to play in the second half, Aquino knotted the match at 2-2 by registering his 11th goal of the season. The Pioneers then sealed the victory by netting the game-winner 90 seconds into the first overtime period.
With the thrilling comeback win, Malone cemented a spot in the four-team Ohio Independent Championships. The overtime triumph also pushed the Pioneers' 2011 win total to 10, marking the first 10-win season for the Malone men’s soccer program since the 2001 squad put together a 12-7 campaign.
Despite suffering a 2-0 loss to eventual tournament winner Notre Dame College in Thursday's OIC semifinal match, Malone will continue postseason play next weekend (Nov. 18-19) when it hosts the NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association) East Region Tournament.
Aquino, a 5'5 sophomore midfielder from Sao Paulo, Brazil, currently paces the Pioneer attack with 11 goals and five assists for a total of 27 points.
