COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Malone University track & field program competed through delays on Thursday at the NCCAA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships. The men's team is third and women sixth, but there is still a majority of events yet to be scored.
Allea Graves reached the event finals in both the 100-meter dash (12.34 seconds) and 200-meter dash (24.85 seconds). She placed third in the 100 and first in the 200 and entered the program's top-ten list in the 100 (tied for fifth).
Malone had scoring members in six different events that went final. The lone field event was the men's discus that the team received points from.
Aiden Mastaso placed fourth (44.11 meters / 144' 8.50") and
Obed West eighth (40.56 meters / 133' 0.75"). Combined results between yesterday and today saw
Alex Swinehart secure a third-place finish in the decathlon with a final tally of 5534.
The men's 4x800-meter relay team of
Tyler Twining,
Eric Dehmer,
Xander Heil and
Brylan Holland had the second-fastest time in program history (7:39.98) to claim the national title in the event. The women's team of
Rebekah Stoneman,
Kristin Yeager,
Brooklyn McIntyre and
Rylee Yocum were runners up at 9:18.41 in the same event.
In the 10,000-meter run,
Kylee Gray led the women with a fourth-place finish of 39:48.57.
Carolyn Miller also scored for the team with a seventh-place finish of 41.18.68.
Alex Hill had the same fourth-place spot in the men's event (32:18.64) while
Zach Bugner (33:19.80) and
Jack Swartz (33:23.13) were seventh and eighth.
The postseason will conclude on Friday, May 9 where an NCCAA National Champion will be crowned.
