Pioneers Make Noise at Walsh Invitational

ALLIANCE, Ohio – At the Walsh Invitational on Thursday, the Malone University track & field team showcased their abilities just before the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Outdoor Championships next week.
 
The Pioneers had one student-athlete enter the program's top-ten list in Gavin Tribelo. Tribelo now has the eighth-best shot put throw at 15.32 meters (50' 3.25"), good for second at the event. Other quality men's field results included Me'zel Square-Ward with a third in the triple jump (13.17 meters / 43' 2.50"), Aiden Mastaso with a seventh in the discus (45.23 meters / 148' 5.00"), Alex Swinehart with a ninth in the javelin (38.07 meters / 124' 11.00") and Silas Miller with a tenth in the high jump (1.80 meters / 5' 10.75").
 
The Malone men received one event win on Thursday in the 3000-meter steeplechase. Wyatt Royster won the event with a time of 10:26.21. Xander Heil recorded a runner-up finish in the 1500-meter run with a time of 3:55.52 while the duo of Alex Hill (15:22.71) and Yahya Jawadi (15:27.68) were third and fourth in the 5000-meter run.
 
The women's team had several highlights as well. The Pioneers were led by Kylee Gray with a third in the 5000-meter run (19:45.21) and Rachel Whetstone with a fourth-place finishing position in the 3000-meter steeplechase (13:56.93). The 4x100-meter relay team of Amber Morris, Allea Graves, Abigail Blaz and Macey Hicks were also credited with a top-three finish in third (49.09 seconds).
 
Malone received a flurry of seventh-place finishes in shorter track events on the women's side. Hicks reached the finals in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.66 seconds. Graves was seventh in the 400-meter dash at 57.87 seconds. Rebekah Stoneman had the same finishing position in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:21.55.
 
The conference championship meet kicks off on Wednesday, April 30 at Ashland University.
