ALLIANCE, Ohio – For the first time in the 2024-25 season, the Malone University track & field team was outdoors for the Stark County Challenge, hosted by the University of Mount Union. The Pioneers were able to secure wins in five different events on the afternoon.
Allea Graves had two individual victories in the 100-meter dash (12.79 seconds) and the 200-meter dash (26.17 seconds).
Macey Hicks was runner-up in each event. In the men's 100-meter dash,
Sabastian Lacatus was victorious with a time of 10.87 seconds.
The final two event wins came in field events.
Me'zel Square-Ward was first in the triple jump (13.10 meters / 42' 11.75") and
Obed West won the discus (42.36 meters / 138' 11.00"). Square-Ward was also the top finisher in the long jump at 5.97 meters (19' 7.00"), good for fourth overall, and West was fourth in the hammer throw at 41.58 meters (136' 5.00").
Malone also had several runner-up finishes.
Rebekah Stoneman was second in the 1500-meter run at 5:00.96 while
Silas Miller was position two in the high jump at 1.80 meters (5' 10.75"). The 4x400-meter relay team of
Brooklyn McIntyre,
Cara Pipitone,
Gabriella Gudger and Graves finished second with a time of 4:16.51.
Other individual highlights inside the top three included Pipitone in the 400-meter hurdles and
Tyler Twining in the 1500-meter run. Pipitone had a time of 1:09.76 and Twining 4:15.21, each of them secured a third-place finish.
The Pioneers are next in action on March 28-29 at West Liberty University for the Tim Weaver Invitational.
