Malone Men Move Up on Day Two of G-MAC Championships

ASHLAND, Ohio – On day two of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Championships, the Malone University track & field program competed for the final time in the indoor campaign. The Pioneer men placed 10th and the women 11th at the conference championship event. Tiffin University won the men's championship and Ashland University the women's title.
 
After qualifying for the event finals yesterday, Sabastian Lacatus finished seventh in the 200-meter run with a time of 21.98 seconds. Malone also received points from Hayden Schmidt in the 3000-meter run. Schmidt ran an 8:27.73 to reach the podium. On the field side, Me'zel Square-Ward was fifth in the triple jump at 13.78 meters (45' 2.50").
 
The men's 4x400-meter relay team of Lacatus, Brylan Holland, Tyler Twining and Eric Dehmer placed seventh in the event with a time of 3:21.17, a mark good for third in program history. Holland also moved into the program's top-ten list in the 800-meter run at 1:54.30 despite not scoring points with his tenth-place finish.
 
The 4x400-meter relay team of Brooklyn McIntyre, Cara Pipitone, Rebekah Stoneman and Allea Graves earned one point for the Pioneer with an eighth-place finish (4:04.29). Rylee Yocum moved into the top-ten list in the mile run as well with a new personal best time of 5:05.57, fifth in program history.
 
The track & field program returns to action for the outdoor portion of the season on Saturday, March 22 for the Stark County Challenge at the University of Mount Union.
