Several Reach the Top of the Podium at Mount Union

ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Malone University track & field program was in action one final time during the indoor regular season on Friday evening at the Mount Union Tune-Up. The Pioneers brought home several first-place finishes and many moved up the top-ten list in program history.
 
Victories were had in six total events, five of which came from the Malone men. Brylan Holland won the 800-meter run at 1:59.15, Manamanya Opiew was victorious in the 1000-meter run at 2:35.68, Hayden Schmidt won the mile run at 4:19.72, Yahya Jawadi took the 3000-meter run at 9:02.53 and Me'zel Square-Ward had the farthest triple jump of the night at 13.95 meters (45' 9.25"). Opiew moved to ninth all-time with his time in the 1000.
 
The other event win came from the Pioneer women and the 4x200-meter relay team of Macey Hicks, Abigail Blaz, Brooklyn McIntyre and Allea Graves. The quad ran a time of 1:47.70, the second-fastest 4x200-meter relay time in program history. The other new entry to the record book came from Tyler Twining in the 500-meter run. He completed the race in fifth with the eighth-best time in program history, 1:07.71.
 
Lexi Tucci was runner-up in the long jump at 5.38 meters (17' 8.00") and finished seventh in the high jump at 1.47 meters (4' 9.75"). The rest of the women's highlights included a third by Jenna Cassidy in the mile run (5:18.98), a fourth by Rylee Yocum in the 800-meter run (2:24.13), a fifth by Hicks in the 60-meter finals (8.07 seconds) and a sixth by Kylee Gray in the 3000-meter run (10:52.62).
 
Other top-eight finishers on the men's side included Obed West with a fifth-place scoring position in the weight throw (14.98 meters / 49' 1.75") and Gavin Tribelo with a seventh-place spot in the shot put (14.06 meters / 46' 1.50"). Sabastian Lacatus qualified for the 60-meter event finals with a time of 7.16 seconds, but did not compete. Eric Dehmer was seventh as well in his event, the 400-meter run (53.12 seconds).
 
The Pioneers compete in the 2024-25 Great Midwest Indoor Track & Field Championship beginning on Friday, February 28.
