GENEVA, Ohio – After nearly a two-month hiatus for the holiday break, the Malone University indoor track & field program went to work on Saturday at the SPIRE Midwest Open.
Me'zel Square-Ward highlighted the day for the Malone men with a second-place finish in the triple jump (13.95 meters / 45' 9.25"), a mark that just missed his personal best. Square-Ward also collected a tenth-place finish in the long jump at 6.29 meters (20' 7.75"). In addition,
Gavin Tribelo was sixth in the shot put at 14.66 meters (48' 1.25") and entered into the top ten in Malone indoor history.
Other field event highlights for the Pioneers included
Obed West and
Silas Miller in the weight throw and high jump. West scored 13.21 meters (43' 4.25") in the weight throw and Miller a 1.80-meter (5' 10.75") high jump.
In the mile run,
Hayden Schmidt placed third overall with a time of 4:18.08.
Zach Bugner (8:39.90) and
Wyatt Royster (15:57.16) were the top Malone finishers in the 3000-meter and 5000-meter events in 11th and 17th. Last but not least,
Sabastian Lacatus was 12th in the 200-meter run (22.65 seconds) and 20th in the 60-meter run (7.15 seconds) and his time in the 200 is now tenth in program history.
Lexi Tucci made her mark for the Pioneers in the jump events. She was fifth in both the long jump and high jump and set new personal bests in both. She reached a height of 5.39 meters (17' 8.25") in the long jump (fourth in Malone history) and 1.60 meters (5' 3.00") in the high jump (tied for fifth in Malone history).
Other highlights on the women's side include
Kristin Yeager with a 19th-place finish in the 3,000-meter run (10:36.58), a 20th-place finish for
Brooklyn McIntyre in the 800-meter run (2:25.89) and a 20th-place finish for
Macey Hicks in the 60-meter run (8.09 seconds).
