Institute, WV – On Tuesday afternoon the Malone University softball team traveled to West Virginia to take on the West Virginia State Yellow Jackets. Following a Game 1 loss by a score of 1-2, the Pioneers clawed out a Game 2 victory via a 10-7 final.

GAME ONE
The Pioneers looked to continue their dominance following an electric Spring Break trip in Myrtle Beach.
Taylor Kern got Malone on the board early as she sent a ball into orbit, putting the Lady Pioneers up 1-0. Following a single and a pair of defensive errors, the Yellow Jackets knotted the score in the 5th. From their, pitching took over as teams remained tied into extras. In the bottom of the 9th, the Yellow Jackets capitalized on another Pioneer error and won by a score of 2-1.
GAME TWO
The Pioneers looked to bounce back in Game 2. Following a pair of early West Virginia State runs,
Faith Yoho doubled home
Karlie Duvall to put the Pioneers on the board. Following a Yellow Jackets error, Malone knotted the score at 2 a piece. Following a string of Yellow Jacket hits, the Pioneers found themselves facing a 6-2 deficit.
Sidney Conti doubled home
Mia Rose and
Halyn Cawthorne followed with an RBI single to cut the deficit to 2. Duvall then knotted the score as she drove home
Lacie Quarles. The Yellow Jackets grabbed one back in the bottom of the 6th to take a 7-6 lead into the last inning. From there, the Pioneers put their foot on the gas and scored four unanswered runs to finish the day with a 10-7 victory.

The Pioneers will stay in Canton for their home opener vs. Rochester University. First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 2:00 P.M.
