Pioneers Dominate Warriors in Home Opener

Canton, OH – On Wednesday afternoon the Malone University Softball team made their home debut against the Rochester University Warriors. The Lady Pioneers dominated en route to a pair of victories.

GAME ONE
The Pioneers started the day off with a bang as Madi Pukansky deposited a ball into the stands. Sidney Conti followed suit with a bases clearing double and Halyn Cawthorne tacked on another to leave the Pioneers up 5-0 through one. Pukansky redeemed her two for one special as she sent a second ball into orbit. Conti followed with a two run shot of her own to establish a 9-0 lead at the end of two. While the Warriors were able to plate another, Kylee Legge recorded her first career hit and RBI to cap off the scoring for the Pioneers as they won 10-1 in just 5 innings. 


GAME TWO
The Warriors established an early 1-0 to start game 2. The Pioneers answered back in the second as a passed ball paired with a Pukansky 2-run single put the Pioneers ahead 3-1. A Grace Kissick RBI double and a 2-run Amber Miller triple stretched the lead out to 5. Karlie Duvall capped off the scoring for the Pioneers with an RBI double of her own. The Warriors homered in the top of the 6th to round out the scoring for the game, leaving the Pioneers ahead with a final of 7-3. 

DETAILS
  • Mia Rose was dominant in game one as she sent struck out 10 while allowed just one run en route to her 5th victory of the young season. Grace Kissick took control in game two as she also struck out 10 while allowing a pair of runs to score. 
  • Madi Pukansky led the way with 4 hits, 2 home runs, and 5 RBI's. Sidney Conti followed suit going 2 for 2 with 5 RBI's and a homer of her own. Karlie Duvall had 4 hits while Halyn Cawthorne and Lacie Quarles had 3 hits a piece. 

WHAT'S NEXT
The Pioneers head to Painesville, Ohio on Saturday, March 16th to take on the Lake Erie College Storm. First pitch is slated for 3:00 PM.
