Track & Field Opens Season at Findlay and Mount Union

FINDLAY, Ohio & ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Malone University indoor track & field team opened the 2024-25 season at the Oiler Opener hosted by the University of Findlay and the Toy Drive Invite hosted by the University of Mount Union.
 
Alex Swinehart was the lone Malone student-athlete that competed at the Oiler Opener in the heptathlon. He finished fourth and set a new personal best score with 4051. He set new personal bests in the 60-meter dash, long jump, shot put and 60-meter hurdle events.
 
At Mount Union, the Pioneer men secured a pair of event wins. Me'zel Square-Ward won the triple jump (13.98 meters / 45' 10.50") and was fourth in the long jump with a personal best (6.42 meters / 21' 0.75"). Manamanya Opiew was also victorious in his event, the 800-meter run, with a time of 2:02.31.
 
Fourth-place finishes were credited to Brendan Pak in the 60-meter dash at 7.07 seconds as well as Silas Miller in the high jump (1.82 meters / 5' 11.50"). Other top finishers included Gavin Tribelo with a fifth in the shot put with a personal best (14.26 meters / 46' 9.50") and a seventh in the weight throw (13.39 meters / 43' 11.75"). Sabastian Lacatus reached the podium with an eighth-place time of 53.09 seconds in the 400-meter dash.
 
On the women's side, the duo of Macey Hicks and Allea Graves were second and third in both the 60-meter dash (8.04 seconds / 8.11 seconds) and 200-meter dash events (26.40 seconds / 26.81 seconds). Hicks led in the 60-meter run and Graves in the 200. Also scoring in the 200 was Brooklyn McIntyre in seventh (27.63 seconds).
 
McIntyre and Cara Pipitone were fifth and eighth-place finishers in the 400-meter dash at 1:02.20 and 1:03.97. Lexi Tucci was third in the long jump (5.22 meters / 17' 1.50") and sixth in the high jump (1.52 meters / 4' 11.75").
 
After the holiday break, competitions continue in the spring semester beginning with the Ashland Invitational on January 25.
