Ashland, Ohio -- The Malone University men's and women's track & field team competed at the Jud Logan Light Giver Open in Ashland, Ohio on Friday and Saturday.
Women's Highlights
In the mile run, Kendall Anenson achieved a personal-best time of 5:20.86.
Jenna Cassidy (22nd) finished the 800-meter run with a career-best time of 2:25.19
Rylee Yocum ran a personal-best time of 10:31.71 in the 3000-meter run, to give her a 11th place finish.
Ella Pumneo placed fifth in the 5000-meter run, clocking a time of 18:19.84.
Men's Highlights
In the mile run, Manamanya Opiew was the 18th runner to cross the finish line, finishing with a career-best time of 4:22.22. Lane Goble followed behind with a personal-best time of 4:24.91 that got him a 24th place finish.
Hayden Schmidt (4th), Tucker Markko (15th), and Chase Balko (19th) finished the 3000-meter run with career-best times of 8:27.86, 8:43.21, and 8:44.71, respectively.
Receiving a personal-best time of 15:27.01, Daniel Frase placed eighth in the 5000-meter run.
The distance medley relay team, composed of Markko, Eric Dehmer, Opiew, and Schmidt finished third overall with a time of 10:00.71, which broke the school record. After that outstanding performance, the team is now ranked seventh in the nation.
What's Next?
On Friday, February 10 and Saturday, February 11, some members of the Malone track & field squad will compete in the GVSU Big Meet hosted by Grand Valley State University. And some will travel to Cedarville University to compete in the 2023 NCCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships.
