Pioneers end Indoor Season After the 2023 Great Midwest Indoor Championships

Ashland, Ohio -- The Malone University men's and women's track & field team competed at the 2023 Great Midwest Indoor Championships in Ashland, Ohio on Friday and Saturday.

The women's team finished in tenth place and the men's squad placed ninth overall.

Women's Highlights
In the 5000-meter run, Ella Pumneo got a seventh place finish with a carrer-best time of 17:52.24. Pumneo also placed ninth in the 3000-meter run, earning another personal-best time of 10:21.47.

Maria Vitko finished the 200-meter run with a career-best time of 29.56 seconds.

Jill Hawks achieved a personal-best score of 2404 points in the pentathlon.

Men's Highlights
In the heptathlon, Donovan O'Neil got a career-best score of 4136 points which allowed him to take seventh in the conference. His score moved him up to the fifth best performance in All-Time Malone Track & Field history.

Hayden Schmidt finished fifth in the mile with a time of 4:09.39, surpassing the all-time school record. Schmidt followed that performance up with a sixth place finish in the 3000-meter run, clocking a time of 8:21.71. That time has put him sixth on the Top Ten Malone Track & Field All-Time List in the 3k.

Parker Young ran a personal-best time of 7.57 seconds in the 60-meter dash.
