PALM COAST, Fla.— With a final round team score of 297 on Wednesday, the Malone University men's golf team finished second at the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) National Championship.
Malone won prior team titles in: 1999, 2000, 2004, 2008, and 2022
The Pioneers had two players earn All-American honors by virtue of their top-10 overall finishes.
Gunnar McCollins (1st) and
Jaxon Rinkes (t6th) were both named NCCAA All-Americans.
HIGHLIGHTS
This year's event was held at Hammock Beach Resort's par 72 Ocean Course, and Malone was second eight strokes back of the lead.
The Pioneers opened up play on Monday with a team total of 302. While MU was paced by a nice round from
Camden Horning who shot a 74 (+2) and
Jaxon Rinkes 75 (+3), there was still more work to be done.
After improving their team total by seven strokes to finish with a 295, Malone was just three strokes behind leader Wayland Baptist on Tuesday. Day two saw a breakout performance from
Gunnar McCollins who shot a score of 68 (-4) and
Jaxon Rinkes continued his solid play with a 74 (+2).Â
Matt Nimsuwan also had a big performance shooting a 73 (+1) which was 11-strokes better from his day one result.
Malone shot a 297 as a team in Wednesday's Final Round.
Gunnar McCollins led the way with his performance of 70 (-2) and secured the National Champion's 1st place Individual Medalist Honors. The Pioneers as a team secured a second place finish.
The Pioneers ended the tournament with a 54-hole team score of 894 (+30).
