OWENSBORO, Ky. -- The Malone University softball team wrapped up their opening weekend of Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play on Saturday with a doubleheader at Kentucky Wesleyan College. 

The host Panthers (10-22, 3-3 G-MAC) took the opener by a final score of 8-0, and then got a walk-off double to win the second game over the Pioneers (5-10, 1-3 G-MAC) 2-1. 

Game 1 Highlights
Kentucky Wesleyan grabbed the early lead with a run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first inning. 

The game then settled into a bit of a stalemate with both teams being shut out in the middle innings. 

The Panthers offense came alive with three runs in their half of the fourth. They added another tally in the fifth, and then scored three more runs on three hits in the bottom of the sixth to take the 8-0 run-rule win. 

Game 2 Highlights
With strong pitching and defense being played on both sides, neither offense was able to get much going early on. 

Once again it was the Panthers who opened up the scoring though. This time with a RBI double in the bottom of the fourth. 

It did not take Malone long to answer however. 

Lexi Betz roped a one-out double into left center. She moved to third base on a Lauren Bennett single, and then came in to score the tying run on a sacrifice fly by Mikayla Kesel. 

MU kept KWC off the scoreboard in the sixth, but unfortunately the home team was able to score the walk-off win with another RBI double in the bottom of the seventh inning.

PIONEER POINTS

• Lauren Bennett and Lexi Betz each had a pair of hits for the Pioneers.
• In the second game, Jensen Miller tossed her fourth complete game of the season. Only one of the runs allowed was earned, and her season ERA now stands at a team-best 3.19.

WHAT'S NEXT?
Monday's doubleheader at Gannon University has been postponed due to the inclement weather forecast. 

Thursday's doubleheader at California University of Pennsylvania has been canceled. 

The Pioneers are scheduled to be back in action on Friday, April 1 when they travel to Ursuline College for another G-MAC doubleheader.
