Malone Wraps up the 2022 G-MAC / MEC Championships

CANTON -- For the fifth consecutive time, Malone University served as the host for the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) and Mountain East Conference (MEC) combined swimming and diving championship meet. 

The meet took place from Wednesday - Saturday at the C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton. 

After the four full days of competition, the Malone University women's team finished ninth out of eleven teams with 308 total points. The men's team slotted in at seventh overall out of ten teams with 467 total points. 

Wednesday - Day 1

The Pioneers had a strong prelims session allowing six swimmers to come back for finals.


Women
Alexis Nutter went a lifetime best in her 1000 yard freestyle in the morning with a time of 12:19.22. Dropping 36 seconds. 

Claire Sullivan broke her own school record in the 1000 yard freestyle on night one of conference. Placing 4th overall with a time of 10:39.53. 

The women's 200 yard Medley Relay, dropped 2 seconds off their seed time to go a season best. Skyler Shannon (back), Molly Maloy (breast), Claire Sullivan (fly), and Isabel Bailey (free).

Shannon went a lifetime best in the 50 yard back, (31.08). 



Men
Luke Kline went a lifetime best in the 1000 yard freestyle in the morning. Dropping 50 seconds to go at a time of 10:49.25.

Caleb Cosentino went a season best in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 10:23.43. Dropping 11 seconds from his seed time. He also went a lifetime best in the fly leg of the 200 medley relay, 22.91.

The men's 200 yard medley relay placed 6th overall, dropping 4 seconds from their season best. Oliver Ehman (back), Caleb Cosentino (fly), Matthew Mazey (breast), Braden Knoch (free).

The Pioneers ended day 1 with 17 season bests, 5 lifetime bests, and a broken school record!


Thursday - Day 2
Prelims Results | Finals Results

On day 2 of G-MAC seven Pioneers qualified to come back and swim at finals. 

Women
Sullivan went a lifetime best in the 400 IM, in the morning. She swam a time of 4:47.47, dropping four seconds. 

Men
Luke Kline went a lifetime best in the 400 IM in the morning with a time of 4:49.73

Cosentino went a lifetime best in the 100 fly with a time of 51.73.

Braden Knoch went a lifetime best in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:47.46.
  
The Pioneers ended day two with two lifetime bests and six season best times

 
Friday - Day 3 
Prelims Results | Finals Results

The Pioneers had a strong third day of G-MAC.

Women
Sullivan placed 6th overall in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:13.35.

Alexis Nutter went a season best in the 500 yard freestyle, dropping 14 seconds to swim a time of 5:53.92.

The women's 800 yard freestyle relay placed 7th overall.

Men
Matthew Mazey and Samuel Rigdon tied in the morning to go a lifetime best in the 100 yard breast with a time of 1:02.74.

Rigdon dropped a few more milliseconds at finals to go another lifetime best with a time of 1:02.56.

The men's 800 yard freestyle relay placed 7th overall.

There were a total of 12 season best times on day three.

Saturday - Day 4

Women
Karly Bruce went a season best with a time of 19:57.74, dropping 1 minute and 30 seconds. 

Claire Sullivan placed third overall in the 1650 freestyle.

The women's 400 yard freestyle relay placed 8th overall and dropped 11 seconds from their season best.

Men
Braden Knoch went a lifetime best in the 100 yard free with a time of 46.32.

Luke Kline went a lifetime best in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:11.99.

The Men's 400 yard freestyle relay placed 7th overall. 

The Pioneers finished the last day with 14 season bests.


The Men finished 7th overall and the Women's finished 9th overall. The Pioneers still succeeded to swim multiple lifetime and season bests to end the season! Great job Pioneers!
