INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana – For the second week in a row,
Bailey Byers has been named Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Softball Position Player of the Week (April 12-18). Byers wins her second Player of the Week award this season, and it is the fourth for Malone softball from the conference.
Byers, a senior catcher from Alliance, Ohio and West Branch High School, has been red hot at the plate over the last three weeks. Byers has recorded multiple hits in 11 of her last 12 games and batted an astonishing 15-for-21 one week ago, with six homeruns, one triple, three doubles, four walks, drove in 13 and scored 12 times. She brought home a run in all six conference games against Hillsdale, Ursuline and Lake Erie.
Byers is a leading candidate for G-MAC Player of the Year, leading the league in batting average (.533), slugging percentage (1.111), on-base percentage (.577) and homeruns (12) while being in the top five in runs scored, total hits, RBIs and doubles. Her percentage marks would shatter the school records for single season hitting and will be at or near the top of the career list in all three at season's end.
