CANTON, Ohio – On Thursday Malone University officials announced the appointment of Tanya Hockman to the position of Director of Athletics at the University. 

Hockman had been previously serving as the Interim AD since the fall of 2019. 

"Tanya has shown exceptional leadership ability and has successfully navigated Malone athletics through the challenges of COVID," stated Malone University Provost Greg Miller. "She has earned the universal respect of athletic administration, our coaching staff, and her AD counterparts in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference."

Hockman graduated with a bachelor's degree in Christian Ministries from Malone in 1994. She was a four-year letterwinner in both volleyball and basketball. Hockman went on to attain a master's degree in Christian Ministries, also at Malone, in 1999.

"Very few people have the opportunity to coach at their alma mater, an honor I had for 22 years. Now I have the privilege of serving the university and department in a new role, as it's athletic director." said Hockman. "I am passionate about our mission to integrate faith and learning. Our chief aim is to seek holistic growth in our student-athletes and pursue excellence in sport and in life. Malone is a special place and I'm delighted to be part of it's future."

She has spent the last 22 years as the head volleyball coach. A national search to fill that vacancy is underway.
