CANTON, Ohio – The Malone University men's soccer team came up short in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) contest Saturday evening 2-0 against Kentucky Wesleyan College.
Malone falls to 0-4-0 on the season and in conference play. Kentucky Wesleyan adds three points with the win and is now 2-0-1 in the 2020-21 season and in the G-MAC.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED:
The first three shots of the game were taken by Kentucky Wesleyan, but all were off target.
Nathan McFeaters put a shot on net at the 10-minute mark, but it was saved by the Panther keeper. Another opportunity by McFeaters bounced off the crossbar 22 minutes into the match.
The Panthers had the final five offensive opportunities in the first half and broke through to score at the 40-minute mark to take a 1-0 lead.
Patrick Brightbill got behind the defense early in the second with an opportunity to tie the game, but put just a little too much on it and the ball sailed over the net.
Nick Wilhelm made a pair of saves to keep it a one-score game in the middle stages of the second period.
The Pioneers took three shots in the 80th minute, all by different players.
Patrick Alvarez and
Justin Betts each had an opportunity from deep inside the box off of a corner kick, and
Nathan McFeaters had a strike from long range that just missed the mark.
Kentucky Wesleyan added an insurance goal after a long pass down the sideline was corralled by the Panthers and Julian Gonzalez scored his second goal of the game inside.

- Malone outshot Kentucky Wesleyan in the second half, 7-5.
- Nathan McFeaters took a team-high four shots, two on goal.
- Dylan Metz stepped in as a starting defender in the game and played all 90 minutes.

Malone men's soccer hosts a top-10 team in NCAA DII when #9 Ohio Valley University travels to Canton, Ohio on Thursday, April 1. Kick-off is scheduled for 4 pm in a men's and women's doubleheader.
