Isaiah Nicholas is a senior sprinter and middle distance runner on the Malone University track & field team from Berea, Ohio and Berea-Midpark High School. He is the son of Kathy and James Flakes.
Isaiah transferred to Malone after two seasons at Iowa Central Community College. While there, he was a 3-time National Junior College Athletic Association All-American and a 2018 NJCAA National Champion in the 4x800 relay.
In his first year at Malone, Isaiah set the school record in the indoor 500 meters and recorded the second-fastest mark in the indoor 600. He also ran a leg on Malone's Distance Medley Relay team which set the school record at the Spire Midwest Open. Isaiah would then earn G-MAC Second Team All-Conference honors following the Pioneers' second-place finish in the DMR at the 2019 G-MAC Indoor Championships.
"Isaiah is an extremely hard worker who never gives up during a race. It doesn't matter if he's in the lead or chasing someone down from behind, he always gives it his all until the very end." - sprints coach Jeb Ford.
Isaiah is a Business Administration major at Malone. He will return to school next fall to finish his degree and may return to run outdoor track in 2021. His favorite memories as a Pioneer are the after-meet van rides.
Congratulations Isaiah!
