Malone Takes on Cedarville in the Conference Quarterfinals on Tuesday Night

Number Five Jaret Majestic leads the fifth seeded Malone Pioneers into battle at Cedarville on Tuesday

The Malone University men's basketball team received the number five seed in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Men's Basketball Championship and will square off with Cedarville University in the Quarterfinal game on Tuesday, March 3 at 7:30 pm. Quarterfinal games are hosted at the site of the higher seed, before going to the highest remaining seed for the Semifinal and Championship games. Ironically, the Malone women's basketball team will also be traveling to Cedarville on Tuesday to play the Yellow Jackets in their Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Women's Basketball Championship Quarterfinal game.

Regular Season Matchups:
In Malone's first league game of the season, the Pioneers fell at home to the Yellow Jackets by a score of 80-66. Freshman Bo Myers scored a career-high 24 points in the game off the bench for Malone. Kollin Van Horn (21 points) and Demond Parker (19 points) led the way for Cedarville.
 
On February 13, Cedarville hosted Malone at Callen Athletic Center and pulled off the regular season sweep with a 74-58 triumph. Daylan Haynie netted 14 points and pulled down five boards in a losing effort. Branden Maughmer achieved a team-high 19 points and secured four steals.

Malone struggled from the field in both games versus Cedarville this season, shooting 38.2% at home and 37.5% in the road game. Combined, the Pioneers shot just 9-of-39 (23.1%) from beyond the arc. On average, the Pioneers shoot 46.1% from the field and 36.4% as a team from long range.
 
Malone has gotten to the charity stripe at least 10 times in all but three games this season. They lead the G-MAC in most makes (371) and attempts (521). Nationally, the Pioneers rank 11 in limiting opponents' free throw attempts with fewest fouls per game.
 
Jaret Majestic leads the team in scoring this season at 16.1 points per game, but had one of his lowest scoring games of the year at Cedarville. Majestic leads the conference in three-point attempts (247) and free throw percentage (93.6%). This season, Majestic shoots 38.1% from three.
 
Sehill Mouliom is scoring the basketball at a very efficient rate recently. He has shot above 50% from the field in all of his last four games and above 78% in three of the four. The big man is averaging 19.3 points per game in the last two weeks. His post partner Marcus Ernst is averaging 15.5 points and 8.0 rebounds over the same two week stretch. Ernst finished the regular season second in the G-MAC with 8.7 boards per game.
 
Senior point guard Daylan Haynie played all 40 minutes in the season finale against Walsh, netted a career-best four three-pointers and finished with 13 points. Haynie has 25 assists compared to only three turnovers over the last two weeks, including a 13-assist game versus Lake Erie on Senior Day. Eli Ramsey scored 10 points at Cedarville in the regular season. The sophomore guard has taken care of the ball exceptionally well in his last four games with nine assists and only two turnovers.
 
Off the bench, Bo Myers has been a scoring machine. Myers has scored 17 points or more in four of his last seven games, including three games with more than 20 points. Myers scored a career-high 24 points against Cedarville on December 7 at Osborne Hall. Levi Seiler and Kenneth McCullough-Lomax Jr. have also seen time when the bigs need a rest.

Callan Athletic Center has proven to be a tough place for opponents to play, as the Yellow Jackets hold a 9-4 at home this season and are 7-2 at home versus G-MAC opponents.
 
Cedarville holds the second best scoring offense in the conference at 81.8 points per game. They hold opponents to the second lowest shooting percentage from three at 32.8%. The Yellow Jackets shoot a league-high 80.7% from the free throw line.
 
Cedarville has five players averaging in double-digit scoring. They are led by Branden Maughmer, who is scoring 15.0 points per game and has played a team high 876 minutes this season. Maughmer is fourth in the G-MAC with an average of 4.9 assists per game and has the third most steals with 41.
 
Quinton Green is averaging 13.5 points per game and has taken the second-most three's on the team behind Isaiah Speelman. Speelman comes off the bench in most games, but is scoring 11.3 points per contest.
 
Post players Kollin Van Horn and Conner TenHove both average 12.3 points per game. Van Horn is second in the G-MAC in field goal percentage at 58.6% from the floor. TenHove is the team's leading rebounder at 7.5 per game, slotting him fifth in the conference.
 
Demond Parker is the final starter for the Yellow Jackets. Parker scores 6.5 points per game, but scored a season-high 19 points versus the Pioneers earlier this season. Cedarville brings Jacob Drees, Sam McKeeman and Seth Dittmer off the bench as well.
