The Malone University softball team picked up their first victory of the season on Tuesday morning with a 6-2 win over Lock Haven University. Malone dropped the second game of the doubleheader to the NCAA DII #16 ranked team in the nation, University of Indianapolis, 12-1.

The Pioneers are 1-5 through three days of the PFX Spring Games. Lock Haven falters to 4-7 in 2020 and 1-2 in the PFX Spring Games. The University of Indianapolis is 12-5 overall and is 4-2 in the PFX Spring Games.

Malone vs Lock Haven Recap:
Madison Corrick reached base from the leadoff spot in the top of the first with a line drive to left field and advanced to third with a stolen base.
Bailey Byers drew a walk later in the frame, but were unable to score.

The Bald Eagles took advantage of an error to plate a run in the bottom of the first, but the top of the second for the Pioneers would open up the game.
Lexi Betz and
Anissa Seese both reached base via a hit and a walk, then
Madison Corrick smashed a three-run homerun into left center to give Malone a 3-1 lead.

Lock Haven cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the second thanks to a double and a two-out RBI single. A double from
Elizabeth Dyke in the top of the third forced a pitching change for the Bald Eagles, but the Pioneers left the bases loaded in the inning.

Malone plated runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings to give pitcher
Jensen Miller some insurance runs.
Madison Corrick singled, stole a base and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly from
Bailey Byers in the fourth.
Bailey Byers reached base off of an error and scored on an error later in the sixth. In a two-out rally in the seventh,
Megan Labut singled, followed by a
Madison Corrick double for her fourth hit of the game and
Erika Johnson drove Labut home with a single. Malone went on to win the game by a score of 6-2.

Jensen Miller pitched a complete game with 10 strikeouts and picked up her first collegiate win in the circle. Malone put up a season-high 13 hits as a team versus Lock Haven.

Indianapolis put up two runs in the first with a homerun from Emily O'Connor. Malone picked up a run on a single from
Madison Corrick, she stole second and scored on an
April Howser RBI single.

Kellsea Morrison drew a walk in the second, but was stranded on base to end the inning. The same was true in the third when
Erika Johnson and
April Howser each singled.

The Greyhounds batted around in the top of the fourth and the top of the seventh and plated five runs in each inning, running away to a 12-1 win.
