The Malone University men's basketball team cruised to a 93-58 victory on Saturday afternoon against Alderson Broaddus University. In the game, Pioneer junior
Jaret Majestic netted 10 three-point shots, tying the school and Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) records for most made shots from beyond the arc in a single game.
Â
Malone wins their second game in a row and advances to 11-7 overall in the 2019-20 season and 5-3 in G-MAC play. Alderson Broaddus falters to 4-13 and 3-6 in the conference.
Â
Recap:
Majestic scored seven of the first nine Pioneer points, including a pair of trey balls, to give Malone a 9-3 edge at the first media timeout.
Â
The Battlers scratched and clawed to keep things close, but the Pioneers maintained a 5-to-10 point advantage in the middle stages of the period behind steady shooting from the likes of
Bo Myers,
Daylan Haynie and gritty plays from
Sehill Mouliom and
Eli Ramsey.
Â
A rim-rattling dunk from Mouliom fueled a Pioneer offensive outbreak.
Marcus Ernst caught a pass on the left block and dished out a perfect dime to Mouliom cutting down the middle of the lane for the vicious slam. With Osborne Hall filled with energy, Malone went on a 10-0 run that extended the lead to 20 late in the half.
Â
Heading into the intermission, Majestic made it known that he was not going to be denied on the afternoon. Over the final 1:47, Majestic splashed home three trifectas to give him six in the half and drove a 47-22 Pioneer advantage at the break. Malone put the clamps on the Battlers in half number one, holding them to 8-of-31 shooting (25.8%).
Â
Alderson Broaddus scored the first four points in the second stanza, but Majestic delivered a knockout punch with triples on back-to-back-to-back possessions to total nine three-point makes before the under-16 media timeout.
Â
Haynie recorded one of his eight assists to Ernst for a two-handed jam to combat a small scoring spree from the Battlers and retake momentum with 15 minutes left in the contest.
Â
Off the bench, Myers performed a shooting clinic of his own from long range, scoring 22 points in the game and knocked down three consecutive longballs in a four-minute span mid-way through the half to give the Pioneers a 71-39 lead.
Â
With 9:02 remaining, Majestic would hit his tenth three-point shot of the day to tie Phil Gebhardt, who scorched the nets for 10 three-piece buckets on Febuary 4, 1992 versus Geneva College.
Â
10 of the 11 Pioneer players scored as Malone pulled away to a 93-58 victory.
