The Malone University women's soccer team squares off with Walsh University on Saturday, September 21. Kick-off is scheduled for 4 pm. The Pioneers will be opening up Great Midwest Athletic Conference play with this match-up versus the rival team from North Canton.

All-time, the Pioneers are 6-17-3 against the Walsh Cavaliers. Last season the teams had two matches: the first of which ended in a 0-0 draw, and the second was won 2-0 by Walsh.

The Pioneer women are off to their best start to a season in a decade. Malone has had eight days to prepare for their first G-MAC match and look to stay hot as a unit.

Last week, the Pioneers made two road trips to West Virginia to play Wheeling and West Liberty. They defeated Wheeling 3-2 and bested West Liberty 1-0.

Danielle Lung has had a phenomenal start to the 2019 season, already netting three goals. After her Country Road (Take Me Home) performances, she was named Malone Athlete of the Week.

Kirsten Hilty has scored twice on the year, and has a team-best .857 shot on goal percentage (6-of-7).

Lindsey Soltisz and
Brooke Lindenschmidt have been rock solid defensively and kept opponents from getting good looks at the net. Pioneer opponents have only scored two goals on 26 shots, 11 on goal.

Haleigh Seman is 2-0, has made eight saves and recorded two shutouts versus Felician and West Liberty.

The Walsh Cavaliers women's soccer program started 2019 with a record of 3-2. Unlike the Pioneers, Walsh is on a quick turnaround after playing GLIAC foe Ferris State on Thursday. Walsh fell to the Bulldogs 2-1 in that game.

As a team, Walsh is averaging 11 shots per game and has netted six goals in their five matches. Oddly enough, the Cavaliers are 3-0 on the road and 0-2 on their home field.

Hannah Bowman and Brianna Sanborn are the team's leading goal scorers with two apiece, along with one goal from Alexis Meffert and Olivia Peters. These four offensive threats have made up 75% of the team's total shots.

Ana Bair, Madalyn Canter and Alisha Himes have started all five matches on defense for the Cavaliers.
