Women's Soccer Splits in the Empire State

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Malone University women's soccer team fell to the Roberts Wesleyan University Redhawks 2-0 on a sunny Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers are now 1-1-0 on the year, while the Redhawks improve to 1-0-1.

Malone had an early chance to take the lead on a shot by Mya Foukas in the sixth minute, but the Roberts Wesleyan goalkeeper made the needed save. The Redhawks found the top left corner of the goal to take a 1-0 lead over the Pioneers in the 23rd minute. Malone had two opportunities to tie the game with shots from Eliza Wills and Nayeli Cruz in the 31st minute of the half, but they were unsuccessful.

The Pioneers' offense went into halftime with just 1-of-5 shots on-goal. Robert Wesleyan stayed in control of the first half as they finished with 57% (4-for-7) of their shots on-target. 
 
The second half started quickly for the Redhawks as they scored another goal in the 52nd minute of the match to extend their lead to 2-0. Malone had several opportunities to find the back of the net but were unable to capitalize on them. At the final whistle, Malone would be defeated 2-0 to end their run in New York.
 
Aubree Mellana and Maya Najjar stayed on the pitch for the full 90 minutes of the match. Goalkeeper Amelia Henderhan (1-1-0) finished the match with a 75% (6-for-8) save percentage.  

The Pioneers will travel back to Pioneer Park to host the West Liberty University Hilltoppers for their season home opener on September 2. Kickoff time is at 6:00 P.M.
