Malone Notes
  • The Pioneers are looking to get back on track after losing five straight games for the first time since 2014. Malone is coming off of a 4-3 loss to Tiffin on Tuesday.
  • Freshman leftfielder Josh Haygood had two hits in the loss and is leading Malone with a .304 batting average, including a .422 mark on balls put in play. Haygood also leads the team in slugging percentage (.507) and RBI (15) and is second on the team with eight stolen bases.
  • Redshirt freshman shortstop Tyson Gingerich is hitting .292 and is a perfect 9-for-9 in stolen bases, which leads the G-MAC. The leadoff man has reached base in 11 straight games and is second on the team with 16 runs scored.
  • Sophomore centerfielder Jacob Mottice leads the team in runs (17) while sophomore second baseman Zach Mottice leads the team in on-base percentage (.452).
  • Rightfielder Turner Hill, catcher Matt Noel, and first baseman Austin White have all produced well in the middle of the order. Hill (13) and Noel (12) have combined for 25 RBI while White has driven in seven runs and is second on the team with five doubles.
  • While the Malone lineup leads the G-MAC in hits (178) and stolen bases (38), the pitching staff ranks first in the G-MAC in team ERA and second in WHIP and strikeouts per nine innings.
  • Eric Mullet (1-2, 4.05 ERA), Clyde Yoder (3-1, 4.19 ERA), Christian Specht (1-1, 3.27 ERA), and Tommy Walker (1-0, 2.42 ERA) are all likely to toe the rubber this weekend. Mullet (27 Ks) and Yoder (25) are among the league leaders in strikeouts while Specht and Walker both rank among the top-12 in ERA.
  • Malone is 10-2 this season when holding opponents to five runs or fewer, but conversely just 0-8 when giving up six or more. Davis & Elkins this season has not scored more than five runs in any game, which should bode well for Malone.
  • The Pioneers are also 6-3 when they score first and 5-2 in one-run games.

Davis & Elkins Notes - Roster | Schedule | Stats
  • The Senators, coming off a 10-4 loss to Glenville State on Tuesday, are one of only two winless teams remaining in NCAA Division II. Dating back to last season, D&E has lost 17 straight – the longest active streak in the country.
  • D&E is led by G-MAC All-Conference second baseman Chase Degrood, a .326 hitter with two homers and six RBI.
  • Junior Brent McMillion leads the pitching staff with 29 strikeouts in 19 innings. His 13.7 K/9IP rate is second in the G-MAC.
