Malone and Tiffin to Square Off in Non-Conference Tilt Tuesday

Turner Hill hit .500 with a homerun and four RBI over four games last weekend.

The Malone University baseball team meets Tiffin University on Tuesday, March 19th at 1:00 pm at Jackson High School in what will be considered a non-conference contest. The Pioneers and Dragons both went 0-4 in the first weekend of Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play and will be looking to build momentum as they head into the second week.

Series History
Malone is 55-33 all-time against Tiffin, including seven straight wins since 2016. Last year, the Pioneers prevailed 6-0 in a non-conference home game. Earlier this spring in Florida, Malone scored 13 unanswered runs in a 14-4 victory over the Dragons.

Malone Notes
  • The Pioneers went 0-4 against Trevecca Nazarene this past weekend as they opened G-MAC play. Malone, looking to avoid its fifth straight loss on Tuesday, has not lost five straight in a single season since 2014.
  • Sophomore Turner Hill batted .500 (6-of-12) with a team-high four RBI in the weekend series. On the season, he leads Malone with a .301 batting average and is second with 13 RBI.
  • Hill, Bryan Yoder, and Matt Noel each collected three hits against Tiffin earlier this season while Noel added five RBI and Tyson Gingerich, Jacob Mottice, and Zach Mottice all scored twice.
  • Gingerich, who has reached base in 10 straight games, and Jacob Mottice are tied for the team lead with 16 runs. Zach Mottice leads the team with a .466 on-base percentage.
  • Josh Haygood leads the team in slugging (.492) and RBI (15).
  • Sophomore relievers Clay Cooper and James Kontur lead Malone in appearances with seven and six respectively. Kontur tied a career-high with six strikeouts in a relief appearance against Trevecca last weekend.
  • Junior reliever Chandler Stahl leads the team with a 14.1 strikeouts-per-nine-innings rate. Stahl has 11Ks in seven innings pitched.
  • The Malone pitching staff leads the G-MAC in team ERA and ranks second in strikeouts per nine innings.
