Home Opener Ends in Malone Victory Fueled by a 3-Point Barrage

The Malone University men's basketball team secured their second victory of the season in their home opener over Bethany College 90-57. The Pioneers even their record at 2-2 overall in 2019 and the Bison fall to 0-4.

Recap:
The Bethany College Bison scored five points to start the game, but by the first media timeout, Malone had acquired an 8-point lead. Eli Ramsey had another scoring spurt to start the game, netting nine of the team's first 15 points.

The Pioneers would hold a 5-10 point lead for the rest of the first half. The Bison hit tough shot after tough shot to stay in the game and Malone took a 37-28 lead into the half. The opening stanza was capped off by a dunk in transition from Marcus Ernst and a three-ball from the big man on the next possession.

Dylan Furlong scored on a pair of threes early in half number two, but the Pioneers started to pour it on offensively.

Malone had a 54-44 lead with 12 minutes left, when the Pioneers turned on the microwave from distance. Three longballs, including one from Jaret Majestic and two from Bo Myers, extended the gap to 19 with 10:53 to go. Those nine points would be the beginning of a 26-3 landslide that put the game out of reach.

Malone got ahead by pushing the ball down the floor and accumulated 23 fast break points in the game. Myers connected on a long three and was fouled for an and-one with 8:40 left in the game as the Pioneers began to flex their muscles late with a 70-44 lead. The freshman went scoreless in the first half, but grinded out a game-high 21 points, all in the second half, including six buckets from beyond the arc.
