Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Malone Falls to Cedarville 4-1

Malone Falls to Cedarville 4-1

The Malone University women's soccer team fell in a road match against Cedarville Thursday evening by a score of 4-1. The Pioneer women have dropped three consecutive matches and are now 7-4-0 overall and 4-4-0 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play. The Yellow Jackets pick up a win and sit at 8-5-0 overall and 7-2-0 in the G-MAC.

The Yellow Jackets scored at the 5-minute mark after a long pass from Emma Conway found Taylor Noll and she worked the ball passed Haleigh Seman in net and guided the ball home to make it 1-0 Cedarville.

It would be the only score of the first half, but the second stanza would see a flurry of offense.

In the 71st minute, Sophia Norden set up Kenna Anderson for the team's second goal of the night with a pass from beyond midfield.

30 seconds later, Riley Nicholson was fouled inside the box, giving the Pioneers' leading goal scorer Danielle Lung an opportunity at her second penalty kick of the season. Lung connected for her 11th goal of the season with a strike to the top right corner of the net to cut the deficit to 2-1.

In the 74th minute, Cedarville would answer right back with a goal from Olivia Hoffman. Hoffman stole the ball in the Yellow Jackets' offensive zone and chipped the ball over the keeper's head to give Cedarville a two-goal advantage once again.

Bex Velloney added an insurance goal for the Yellow Jackets in the 76th minute to make the game 4-1 and put the comeback hopes to rest for the Pioneers.

Shots were even at 13 apiece for both teams, but Cedarville made the most of their opportunities close to the net.

Danielle Lung led the Pioneer offense with six shots and the only goal of the game. Kirsten Hilty also took two shots. Savannah Ebin, Megan Fuller, Amanda Kinsey, Alexa Langenfeld and Keeley Malley each recorded one shot on the day.

The Malone women's soccer team takes the field next on Saturday, October 26 when the Pioneers venture to Columbus to square off with the Panthers of Ohio Dominican. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
