The Malone University women's soccer team fell to Ohio Dominican University on Saturday night by a score of 2-1. The Pioneers, who started the year 7-1-0, are now 7-5-0 overall after struggling in four consecutive road matches, and sit at 4-5-0 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play. The Ohio Dominican Panthers pick up their ninth win of the season and are 9-5-0 in 2019 and 7-3-0 in conference play. The Panthers clinched a berth to the G-MAC Tournament with their win and loss by Lake Erie on Friday.
Â
12 points for Malone in the conference table places them eighth with three games left to play. The Pioneers hold a five point lead over the first team out of the playoff picture, Lake Erie.
Â
Just as in the men's match earlier in the night, Ohio Dominican picked up an early goal to take a 1-0 lead. In the 7th minute, Samantha Buck netted a goal off of a free ball that was placed in the box from a free kick beyond midfield.
Â
The Panthers would double their lead at the 22-minute mark when Samantha Buck would find the back of the net again for her 11th goal of the season.
Â
Malone's offense was only able to muster up three shots in the first half, two by
Danielle Lung and one by
Sally Culig.
Â
Coming out of the huddle, the Pioneers were able to strike for a goal to shrink the deficit.
Keeley Malley redirected a corner kick that was pinballing off defenders and the Panther keeper in the 46th minute to compile her third goal of the season.
Â
This would be all the scoring either team would do on the night, as rain fell heavily in the second half and limited scoring opportunities.
Â
Alexa Langenfeld took two shots for the Pioneers in the second half to tie Lung for the team lead in shots. Malone was outshot in the match 13-6.
Â
Senior netminder
Haleigh Seman tallied four saves.
Â
The Pioneers return home for their next contest against nationally-ranked and undefeated Findlay on Thursday, October 31 at 3:30 pm.
