Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Pioneers Fall to Undefeated Oilers in Weather Delayed Game

Pioneers Fall to Undefeated Oilers in Weather Delayed Game

The Malone University women's soccer team lost to the University of Findlay Thursday night by a score of 4-1. Malone drops their fifth straight match and has an overall record of 7-6-0, 4-5-0 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. NCAA Division II #21 Findlay remains undefeated at 12-0-1 and 10-0-1 in the G-MAC. The Oilers have now won 10 consecutive matches.

The weather forced the game to be delayed and eventually played at Bob Commings Field on the campus of GlenOak High School. While torrential downpour influenced the men's game earlier in the day, wind gusts nearing 30 miles per hour and frigid temperatures below 40 degrees played a factor in the women's match. A north blowing breeze kept the ball on the north side of the field for most of the night.

The first shot of the game was not taken until 18 minutes into the match when Findlay got a close look at the net with a header off of a free kick, but was high.

Four of the game's five goals were scored in an 8-minute period from the 29th minute to the 37th minute.

Findlay netted the first goal of the game with a ball stolen in their own offensive zone and a laser to the top of the goal by Sierra Peacock.

The Oilers followed that up with a score off of a corner kick by Sydney Demyan was headed in by Jayla Campbell in the 34th minute.

Findlay took a three goal advantage off the foot of Ashley Rings and a free kick from outside the box in the 37th minute. The ball hit the top crossbar and fell in behind Haleigh Seman in net.

Malone battled right back and 13 seconds later, Alexa Langenfeld put a shot on goal that was blocked by the Oiler keeper and Madeline Ault was there for the rebound and score to make it 3-1.

Findlay would add an insurance goal in the second half off another corner kick from Demyan and this time Paige Casto was there to head the ball into the net and make it 4-1 Oilers.

In the game, Malone took 13 shots (nine on-goal) to Findlay's seven total shots (four on-goal), including outshooting the Oilers 11-1 in the second half.

Megan Fuller took a game-high five shots, three on-goal. Danielle Lung had three shots, all on goal as well.

The Pioneers take the pitch next on Saturday, November 2 for Senior Day against Tiffin University. The women's game kicks off at 11:30 am, followed by the men's soccer team and their Senior Day festivities.
